Belize Population

Belize is administratively divided into 6 districts: Belize, Corozal, Cayo, Orange Walk, Stann Creek and Toledo. The capital of the country is Belmopan, which is the smallest national capital in the world with a population of about 12 000.  Belmopan was built in 1970, after the former capital Belize City received substantial damages from hurricane, and the same year the government was moved there. Belmopan is located in the centre of the country, about 80 kilometres to the south-west of Belize City.

Belize City is still the largest city and the major commercial centre of the country, with a population of 80,000. Belize City is located on the eastern coast close to the major international airport. Other big cities of Belize are Corozal Town, Orange Walk Town, San Ignacio/Santa Elena, San Pedro Town, Dangriga Town, Benque Viejo del Carmen and Punta Gorda Town.

Belize is ethnically and linguistically diverse country, with 49% Mestizo, 25% Creole, 11% Maya, 6% Garifuna and 9% other. Total population of the country is about 300,000. The religion is mainly Christianity.
